Spiral Balance Adjustment

Tilt sash downward view balance tilt shoe. Refer to Illustration 1 to disengage balance rod from tilt shoe. Caution: Do not allow rod to disconnect from tensioning tool.
  1. If sash is dropping, add tension by rotating the balance in the opposite direction (against the tension). Apply the same amount of tension to both sides. Do not exceed more than two full turns at a time. Reconnect rod to tilt shoe. Reposition sash and check operation. For additional tension repeat the process until sash holds position properly.
  2. If sash is rising by itself, less tension is required. Release the same amount of tension on both sides by allowing the tensioning tool to rotate in the same direction (with the tension) for one or two full turns. Reconnect rod to pivot shoe. Re-position sash and make sure it operates properly. Process should be repeated if necessary.
  3. If rod is disconnected from pivot shoe, then follow Illustration 2 for position of balance rod before connecting tensioning tool and tensioning balance. Apply the same amount of tension to both sides.

Note: Balance tool can be purchased from dealer.

Note: Make sure sash is raised at least 3" off sill before tilting lower sash.
