FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE
- Carefully remove all inside trim or stops, since you will
reuse this material.
- Cut bottom sash balance cord or chain and remove the panel.
- Remove the middle parting strips at the sides and top.
- Cut top sash balance cord or chain and remove the panel.
- Remove the sash pulleys or hammer into the jamb so the jambs
are flush and unobstructed.
- Leave the exterior stop (blind stop) intact to prevent the
replacement window from falling through.
- Clean opening thoroughly and caulk or use insulation to fill
the old holes.

II. HOW TO INSTALL YOUR NEW VINYL REPLACEMENT WINDOW
- Install the head expander on the top of the window and set
into opening. In some installations, (because
of variances in heights) the front leg of the
expander may rest too low. If this is the condition,
the outside leg will have to be field trimmed.
Mark and remove window. Utilizing the score lines
on the inside of head expander as a guide, with
a utility knife cut off excess. Apply a liberal
caulking bead along the inside of the blind stop
at the top and both sides where the window frame
will make contact.
Also apply caulking beneath the sill angle.
(Installation screws found behind bottom sash
stop.)
- Install sill angle above blind stop.
- Place expander on top of window and caulk along top of expander.
-
- Apply
a bead of caulk to inside top of sill angle.
Set window in opening capping over sill angle.
Fill gap (at contour on both ends of exposed
angle) with sealant.
- Window
must be squared to operate properly.
- Determine if any wood shims are needed to keep the window
plumb, square and centered in the opening.
- Raise the bottom sash and the two sash bumper stops. Install
a screw into the jambs at each side of the bottom
of window. Make screws snug, not too tight. (Installation
holes are pre-drilled.)
- Lower the top sash and the two bumber stops at the top. Install
a screw into the jambs at each side of the window.
Make screws snug, not too tight.
- The window must be centered and squared in the opening. Check
to be sure window frame is square and adjust installation
screws if necessary.
- Lift expander to flush with top of opening. Drill holes and
secure with small at lowest part of expander to
insure contact with window.
- The jamb adjustment grommet screws are located in both side
jambs of window. Turning the screws in a clockwise
direction will cause the jamb middles to "pull"
toward the center of window. This adjustment is
necessary to give a close and even alignment between
the sides of panels and the jambs, and to assure
proper panel operation. The distance between the
operating panels and the jambs of the window should
not exceed 1/16". After making partial adjustment,
replace the panels, operate them and visually
judge their alignment with the jambs.
Adjustment may have to be made several times until
satisfactory performance is achieved. Adjustments
can also be made by loosening and tightening the
previously installed jamb screws.
In extreme cases the old window opening might
be badly "bowed". If the adjustments do not solve
this problem, wood shims will have to be used
between the rough opening and the replacement
window jambs.
If the top expander channel is used, adjust it
up against the rough opening. Install it there,
with three screws, thru the leg of the channel
into the vinyl window frame. This can be done
from either inside or from outside.
- Caulk around the entire perimeter of the window on the inside.
Replace the old window trim strips or install
new strips around the inside of the window at
head and jambs.
